Each individual and business record in the case management system has a status that indicates its current state in your workflow. Statuses can be one of:
open- The record has been created but no decision has been made yetpending- The record is being reviewed or additional information has been requested, but no final decision has been madeapproved- The record has been reviewed and approveddeclined- The record has been reviewed and declined
Risk Ratings
If risk rating is configured in your account, each status entry can include a risk rating that provides a quantitative assessment of the risk associated with the record. Risk ratings consist of:
- A numeric
valueranging from 0 to 100 - A categorical
levelthat maps to the numeric value:low: Values from 0 to 29medium: Values from 30 to 69high: Values from 70 to 100
Risk ratings can be assigned when creating or updating a status and will appear in status responses when configured for your account.
Automated Risk Rating Operations
When both risk rating and automated risk calculation are configured for your account, the system will automatically update risk ratings in the scenarios outlined below.
Risk ratings can be overridden with a manual adjustment via the API and the UI, along with a justification in the status notes field.
Risk Match Resolution
When risk matches are resolved:
- If a match is resolved as a "likely match" or "possible match", the record's risk rating will be automatically increased to
high(70-100) - If all risk matches for a record are resolved as mismatches (e.g., name mismatch, facial mismatch), the record's risk rating will be set to
low(0-29)
In these cases, the system will add a note such as "Record status set by system due to risk match resolution as likely or possible match" or similar.
Sanctioned Countries Detection
Records will automatically receive a high risk rating when they are associated with comprehensively sanctioned countries:
- For individuals: This includes citizenship country, tax identification country, domicile location country, or residence location country
- For businesses: This includes incorporation country, tax identification country, or principal location country
Relationship-Based Risk Ratings
For business records, risk ratings are automatically updated when:
- New control persons (individuals with control over the business) are added with higher risk ratings
- New beneficial owners (individuals or businesses that own part of the business) are added with higher risk ratings
When these changes occur, the system will evaluate the risk ratings of the new controllers or owners and may update the business record's risk rating accordingly.
Risk Rating Cascade
When risk rating cascading is configured, changes in risk ratings automatically propagate through related records:
- When an individual's risk rating increases, any businesses they control or own will have their risk ratings increased if lower than the individual's
- When a business's risk rating increases, any businesses it owns will have their risk ratings increased if lower than the changed business's
This ensures that high-risk relationships are properly reflected throughout the entire ownership structure.
Customization
Automated risk rating automation and configuration can be customized. Contact your account representative for more information.
